Show Room

The unit that I’ll be moving in is almost ready to be occupied. Today, the owner who by the way is my uncle, showed it to me. I liked it.  I just need some re-painting and a little bit of cleaning and decorating. I immediately looked for a perfect spot where to do a photo shooting with the recipes that I’ll be going to cook in a few days. I need to look for wooden blinds for my back drop. The lighting is good, my uncle used roof a plastic, clear in the kitchen area. I have a long list of things that I need and purchase this coming payday. I need kitchen utensils like pan, kettle, pot and a couple of scoop or ladles. What I have on my list for dinning wares are couple of plates, spoon and fork, bowls, glasses, and cups. I’ve seen fine-looking dinning wares at Salcedo. I might drop by this weekend. I also need to save money from my salary to purchase kitchen appliances like refrigerator, microwave oven, oven toaster, rice cooker and luxurious coffee maker, lol! Starting a small kitchen could be really expensive. I didn’t anticipate some things.

Overhaul

If you are maintaining a website or websites I think you could relate on what I’ve experienced. As of writing, I am maintaining four websites.  A travel blog (Gest to Utopia), a general information or lifestyle blog (Romepedia), a food blog (The Cuisineuer) and my new baby for yuppies, the young urban professional blog  (The Yuppy Directive). Honestly, it is really hard. It’s like you have four kids to take care of. I admit, some of them are not updated regularly unlike this website because I don’t have the luxury of time. Maintaining just one website is really a big challenge.  Sacrificing hours of family and sleeping time. Many times I forgot to eat. My best friend wants me to sell two of them because they rarely see me already because my time is always occupied blogging, drafting, and web designing. No, I’m not selling my websites. In fact, I’m thinking to overhaul it through an experienced web development company suffolk  if I could afford it. I think, it is very important to choose a good website designer for my babies for marketing purpose. I believe that my websites, though are not earning are good investments.

Fill the Gap Between

I’m not really looking for a new job because I am satisfied, contented and happy where I’m working right now.  I am working as Bid Support Specialist in IBM Philippines but I’m supporting Canada Sales.  I am never been so happy everyday going to work, excited what would be the new challenges that I’m going to take.  Plus the fact that Canada has a lot of Holidays which also means lot of holiday off, lol! Work load is just fair, heavy during quarter end. Quarter end has just ended and I have plenty of time to go online.  One thing that caught my attention earlier today was when I found East Anglia Jobs. I dream of working in Europe again. It is my ultimate dream since I was a kid. Given a chance to work somewhere in Europe I’ll choose Norway or Switzerland. I think, from what I read online those two countries are the safest to live on earth and the richest. I strongly hope and pray that someday someone will hire me overseas.  For those who are interested, I have three years hotel experience in Front Office, limited Financial and Customer Service, and Data entry background.

Filipino Breakfast Coming Up

My photo contributor and friend who is working as IT support in London is travel ling all over Europe. I received pictures of beautiful places in Europe she sends through email. Edinburgh castle is so magical. I’ll be posting it on my travel blog, Gest to Utopia after a series of posts and more stories from my own travel in Hong Kong and Shenzhen, China. My friend wrote that she misses Filipino food already. It has been two years since she left the country. I told her that I’ll be posting Filipino cuisine next week and she could just feed her eyes, lol! I decided to start my recipes with easy and famous Filipino breakfast menu. I already gathered interesting recipes and some twist to the original and traditional Filipino breakfast. "Silog" meals will be the picture of The Cuisineuer starting on the 15th of August after I move in to my new unit. My favorite among Filipino breakfast is the "tapsilog". It consists of "Tapang Baka" (Fried Beef jerky), "Sinangag" (Garlic Fried Rice), and "Itlog" (Fried Egg). What I’m going to share could be the Tapang Kabayo (Fried horse meat jerky) instead of beef because it’s more flavorful. Wait until I post it.

More Fun in Disneyland

This post is my last entry for our Disneyland adventure. Though we weren't able to explore Adventureland because of limited time, I just thought of sharing other attraction we explored in this favorite theme park. I'll reserve Adventureland on my next visit.

"It's a Small World" is a sail in an imaginative journey you'll definitely enjoy scenes through different cultures far and wide. You'll experience the joy and wonder of creatively costumed dolls, elaborate sets, unforgettable music and favorite Disney characters. True indeed from Famous Inspirational Quotes, its a small world after all..

Mad Hatter Tea Cups, the wackiest tea party this side of the rabbit hole. The befuddled and riddle-posing Mad Hatter from the children's book and classic Disney film, "Alice in Wonderland," wants you to go for a zany fun-filled spin in an oversized tea cup. This interactive party ride can spin wildly or remain gentle, it's up to you.

The three-dimensional at Mickeys Philhar Magic. A journey through some of the most memorable moments in Disney animated films. Meet princesses, villains and beloved heroes up close in this silly symphony of surprises. It's a hilarious adventure through movies, music and mayhem.

Fantasy Gardens and Miscellaneous photos: We encountered our favorite Disney heroes and heroines in these lush fantasy gardens. Come prepared with your cameras and autograph books because you may well be greeted by a princess, like Cinderella; a warrior, like Mulan; or one of Mickey Mouse's pals, Goofy, Donald or Pluto.

Going Japanese

These are the Japanese food that my chef friend wants to share with you guys.  Japanese foods are not only pleasing to the eyes but also to your taste buds.  My chef friend who is a bodybuilder too is not only dependent to whey protein but also to these famous Japanese masterpieces.  Japanese cuisine according to Wikipedia is based on combining staple foods, typically rice or noodles, with a soup and okazu dishes made from fish, meat, vegetable, tofu and the like to add flavor to the staple food. These are typically flavored with dashi, miso, and soy sauce and are usually low in fat and high in salt. Popular items are sushi, sashimi and teriyaki. Sushi, long regarded as quite exotic in the west until the 1970s, has become a popular health food in parts of North America, Western Europe and Asia.

Ikura Sushi- is made of Little Pearl Salmon Caviar, Japanese Rice, rice wine vinegar, sugar, salt, and Nori

Ebi Sushi - Ebi means shrimp. The way to enjoy shrimp is via ama-ebi, raw shrimp, and sashimi-style.

Maguro Sashimi - fresh sashimi grade yellow fin tuna. It has a tender and mild flavor which is great for searing or eating raw.

Salmon Sashimi - one of the most colorful pieces on the sushi or sashimi plate. It has a wonderful, unctuous texture like toro and yellowtail, but (along with mackerel) much higher levels of Omega 3 essential fatty acids.

Sashimi Hamachi - made of young yellowtail (Seriola lalandi), is a gleaming, unctuous, firm, pink-hued fish, one of the most flavorful. Often served chopped in a roll with with scallions (negi-hamachi).

Ten temaki - A temaki is a cone-shaped hand roll. Add the name of any fish or vegetable the word before temaki, and you will get that item wrapped with rice in a sheet of toasted seaweed.

Unagi Sushi is Freshwater eel, which is richer than salt water or conger eel (anago). Eel is not served raw, but is pre-boiled, freshly grilled prior to serving and brushed with a rich sauce called kabayaki tare.

An American invention, the original California Roll was made by Ichiro Manashita, a sushi chef at Tokyo Kaikan restaurant in Los Angeles, around 1973. He incorporated avocado, cucumber and fish cake into a roll,  he hid the seaweed, which many Americans did not like, inside a layer of rice.

Weekender

Here comes the weekend. Thanks God, its Saturday once again. It’s two days off from work and time to do the laundry, fix broken furniture, clean my room, organize my things and clean up my personal computer. It is the day I’m looking forward to relax and watch downloaded movies from torrent ,  listen to good music and read some Bob Marley's best quotes.

How's Your Weekend?

It has been two days without internet connection. For some reason, I can’t connect to the internet after exerting all my technical, emotional and financial knowledge, so I gave up. I settled watching three movies to let the time goes by because my tv's cable connection aint working, I wasn’t able to watch my favorite TV shows either. When my eyes hurt, I did the laundry but It was raining so hard my clothes are still hanging and wet. Those are the omens of moving into a new place, I figured. I slept twelve hours last day. No, I'm not intoxicated whatsoever. I was relieved when I woke up.   I packed my things up because early this month I've decided to move to a new unit with a small kitchen so I could cook those recipes I've gathered from my favorite websites. I'll be moving on the fifteenth of August since I'll be having 4 days off that time, perfect! My room is full of empty Cardboard Boxes and things that I think not important are scattered everywhere. Old books, magazines, old clothes, shoes, bags,  utensils, documents, compact disks, dvd's, and scratch papers are all in one place. I never thought that moving is a real pain. I’m thinking of throwing it all in garbage. And then the internet connection was up. Nice.

Am I Healthy?

Factors such as clean water and air, adequate housing, and safe communities and roads all have been found to contribute to good health. The World Health Organization defines health as “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”. Health, according to Wikipedia is a positive concept emphasizing social and personal resources, as well as physical capacities. In general, it is the condition of a person in mind, body and spirit being free from illness, injury or pain. For me, our health status is the reflection of the food we eat, the things that we do, and the thoughts that we think. Environmental, Biomedical, and Lifestyle are the three determinants of a good health. Lifestyle is the the aggregation of personal decisions which I think I failed. Some decisions I regret but enjoy doing so are smoking and eating unhealthy food. Consequences are illness to both physical and emotional. At my age, my vision is no longer 20/20, my teeth are no longer complete and my skin is not clear, indications of a poor health. I'm wearing coloured contact lenses to correct my vision and planning to undergo teeth implants. I guess its not too late to change my lifestyle.

Free Yellow Cab Pizza at IBM's Pantry

I just came in from a heavy lunch break at Jollibee with saucy, cheesy spaghetti, two pieces of chicken joy and a large diet soda when my boss announced that there is a free yellow cab pizza at the pantry. Who am I to say no to freebies? Hahahaha. This is another reason why I love my company and proud to be an IBM’r. Today is nothing special, no holiday to be celebrated. It’s just another ordinary day at the office after the toxic quarter end.  In fact, it has been two weeks now of zero work at the office. I have been eating a lot of food lately and I know I’m getting fatter and fatter everyday. I decided to cancel my plan to go on a strict diet. I just can’t resist anything edible nowadays. I am too lazy to exercise plus the fact that I don’t have time to do so. I just thought of taking weight loss pills and Anti-estrogens because I’ve noticed that my breast is kinda bigger than usual. I’m not sure what diet pills are good and effective though. Have you tried to take a diet pills? What brand is affordable and effective?

Chocolate Mousse

Stumbling upon a creamy and thick and very chocolaty choco mousse in a quaint restaurant along Quezon Avenue was a taste of heaven. Although I’m staying away from excessive intake of calories, this incredibly decadent, luxurious, sweet and calorific dessert is really hard to resist and so I gave in. It is so pretty and one of the easiest and most satisfying desserts around. One spoonful of this Chocolate Mousse and you will be hooked forever. This dessert will definitely satisfy your sweet tooth. I knew I’ll be late going to office so immediately, when my plate was empty I headed to lavatory to wash my hands. The restroom was clean, neat and I think, hygienic because there’s a hand sanitizer inside. Tissue papers were neatly placed and scented soap was available to use. I’ve noticed that the Hand Dryers is the fastest I have used so far. I liked the small but tidy restroom. I hate dirty restrooms specially when you visit a good restaurant but has dirty restroom somehow it has a connotation of the whole establishment and the food they serve. For me, restrooms are the flag carrier of a restaurant and should be kept clean and hygienic. Don’t expect me to go back to a restaurant with dirty restroom.

Car

My friend in college bought a brand new Fiesta Sedan from Ford. I thought of owning a car too but with the income I'm earning right now it seems impossible. With the income I’m earning right now, I used a car loan calculator to estimate how much time would take for me to afford a Ford Expedition. Well, I was surprised with the result it is doable!

Say Cheese!

A friend of mine whose working in Scotland as a nurse is now travelling around Europe armed with a powerful camera and european travel insurance. She sent me some naughty pictures of european man wearing traditional costume. Sorry I can’t share it with you because this blog is exclusively for foodies only, lol! Anyway, here is a picture of a cheese store she has found while strolling on the streets of Edinburgh. She knew that I love cheese so much. I really do envy her.  Cheese according to Wikipedia is milk-based food product. It consists of proteins and fat from milk, usually the milk of cows, buffalo, goats, or sheep. It is produced by coagulation of the milk protein casein. Most cheeses are acidified to a lesser degree by bacteria, which turn milk sugars into lactic acid, and then the addition of rennet completes the curdling. Cheese is valued for its portability, long life, and high content of fat, protein, calcium, and phosphorus. Cheese is more compact and has a longer shelf life than milk. The pleasure of eating cheese does not end in taste but it also beneficial to our health. According to study, eating cheese is good to your heart, help prevent tooth decay, and believe it or not, help loss weight.  It also lower down blood pressure and reduce abdominal fat, blood pressure and blood sugar.

Cravings

A pile up of work load bid goodbye after the long hours of scrupulous and complicated process. dealing with insensitive people, I admit was unbearable. I am writing this post at 4:19 am  while I am craving for a roasted pork at this unholy hour. Should I do it myself or call a hog roast hire? neither is possible. To long for this kind of foodie is kinda normal for me when I'm mad and or happy so I went to the pantry. Alas!  Lechon Paksiw or Roast suckling pig stew is available on their menu. I was relieved, the Roast suckling pig stew was delish. I still need one more thing, I need to eat the cold and sweet McDonald's hot fudge sundae to complete my satisfaction. McDonald sundae is soothes my emotion, its another comfort food I cant resist every time I'm sad or mad. Comfort Food may have a nostalgic or sentimental appeal, it doesn't need to be expensive or luxurious. Apart from the Lechon Paksiw and Hot fudge sundae, other wistful food I have in mind but are not available this early morning  are; cheese floss from bread talk, ruffles of lays, and almond blizzard from Dairy Queen.

Travel and Money

A visitor and now a follower of my travel blog, Gest to Utopia asked me if how much money did I allocate in traveling to Hong Kong and China last May. It was a travel now pay later trip but I spent a total of 22,000 in Philippine Peso including airfare, accommodation, food, shopping and pocket money. The Currency Exchange from Philippine Peso to Hong Kong Dollar was 5.70. The exchange rate was 3859.65 Hong Kong Dollars or 511.63 US dollars last May. I've already paid it after 2 months of working and saving hard, lol! Now we want to put our trip into higher level, we are  eyeing to visit Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia and Laos. I'm positive, that it will be happening next year. I have ample of time saving money. We dont want to purchase voucher or package tours. With the help of internet, we will try to DIY (Do it yourself) adventure. I need to be thrifty, I heard that Bangkok is a great place to shop clothes and Singapore to shop for gadgets. I hope I would be able to save a lot of money to buy an iphone 5. By that time iphone 5 is already out in the market, I guess.

Another Long Weekend Coming Up

The Canadian bid support specialists and I is anticipating for long weekend at the end of this month, that would be a four days off. From my previous posts, apart of moving to another unit, and a slumber party, I have mentioned a lot of things to do. I hope I could fulfill all of it. If time permits, I am eyeing to spend the holidays in my cousin's beach house in Olongapo. I wanna try their brand new and specialized cottage holidays. We all need and deserve a break to enjoy and to fill the gaps between work, family, and friends. I been to Olongapo City before and what I love about the place is the seafood, the Subic safari, and the beach. I'm planning to visit the Ocean Adventure if I could find a good deal of the entrance ticket since its lean season. Hopefully, I would be able to shop some kitchen wares in the free port too, I heard, good and imported kitchen stuff are cheap there because its tax free. Hmmmm, too many things to do but the time and money are limited, lol! With this long list in my mind, I'm keeping my fingers crossed to let this all things happen and for me to stick to my master plan.

Japan-nice

Browsing some pictures on my friends Facebook accounts, I came across with beautiful pictures of Japanese food from an acquaintance in college whose now working in a hotel in Dubai. I've tried Japanese food before but I found the taste bizarre, I love the California maki and Tokyo Tokyo's chicken teriyaki though. What captured my attention is the preparation. Japanese food is a work of art. When I was working at Hotel Fleuris in Palawan where We Be Sushi Restaurant caters Japanese foodies in the city, I had a chance to experience and taste some Japanese food like, tempura, ebi sushi, sashimi, and my favorite, the tempura fried ice cream. I saw how the foodies were prepared. Honestly, I'm not a fan of the taste but I am the number one fan in terms of food presentation.

When I saw this picture, I second thought of trying Japan food. The pictures are so tempting and pleasing to the eye, I’m going to post each dish from that platter above next time.  Perhaps, I could try this on the holiday since uk holidays is coming up and I don't have a plan yet. What Japanese restaurant would you suggest? I heard Izakaya Taisho Restaurant in Malate is good, isn’t it?

Illuminating Tinker Bell Castle and Disney in the Stars

There are various stage shows, kaleidoscope attractions, and rides to choose from in Hong Kong Disneyland theme park in Lantau, Hong Kong. Of all the attractions, my ultimate favorite is the illumination of the Tinker Bell castle and the Disney in the Stars. By day, it glistens as the golden Sleeping Beauty Castle. It is located at the center of the theme park, a beautiful fairy-tale castle decorated by golden pixie dust which sparkles and shimmers in the sun, and illuminates by night. I longingly stared at it when I first saw it. I stepped through the castle doors and immerse myself in the place where Disney stories come to life. It was a real fun!

By night, Tinker Bell will shower the castle with her magical fairy dust, transforming it into Tinker Bell's Pixie Dusted Castle. It has special effects that brighten the castle like it was draped in pixie dust. It was spectacular! The Tinkerbell Castle Illumination starts at 7pm daily.

Disney in the Stars is the nightly fireworks performance that starts an hour later after the Tinker Bell Castle Illumination. Unlike the film labels or ident of Walt Disney in the movies, this one is live! Fireworks and pyrotechnics are not animated and are coordinated to orchestrated classic Disney music and soundtracks. The night sky comes alive with this dazzling pyrotechnic show. Amazing fireworks explode to the masterfully choreographed sounds of classic Disney music. It's an awesome and magical display that will send you into a colorful world where anything is possible and dreams really do come true.

Moving

Big things are coming up. I'll be moving next month to a brand new unit. Transferring to a new house is challenging and I consider this change a very important step that can change my life totally. The new unit is within the compound I’m recently residing at. Moving my stuff won’t be that difficult because I don’t think I need to put my things in the box. The new unit has a small kitchen so that I could fulfill my plan to cook. Yes, this is it, I'm living my plans.
There are so many things to think about when moving from one place to another. I want my new place to be as organize if at all possible. Unlike the room I'm occupying for almost a year now, I want the electric cables organize, so I thought of buying cat6. I'm also planning to purchase cheap kitchen stuff and dinner wares. Perhaps, I could do the window shopping on weekend so that I could allocate a budget. The new place is a little bit expensive but I think I could manage to pay the rent. I'll keep this new place tidy at all times specially the kitchen. I’m happy! I’m looking forward to share some recipes with you.

Kids Tea Party

Since we are planning to have a slumber party next month and its 90 percent sure to push through, we will also be going to prepare a small tea party to my nieces to keep them preoccupied. My four nieces are hyperactive little princesses, I'm sure they will steal our catch up moments together. So we decided to look for childrens entertainer to facilitate the kids tea party while we are re-bonding.
We will be preparing some cool foodies and fun activities for kids too. We've decided to prepare the classic, sweet, Filipino style spaghetti, hot dog on a stick and barbecue. Peanut butter and cheese sandwhich will be served too. We're not sure if we'll be giving them fried chicken because its their everyday meal already. We were talking if they will eat fruits and veggies instead of meat (which I doubt). My sissy wants to prepare finger foods, fruits and veggies. In the meantime, we are not yet decided. We are still researching for delish but affordable menu and recipes for kid's party. The little angels requested ice cream perhaps we could make banana split for them.
As for the activities, we'll be having coloring books and  post card making contest. Im sure the kids will enjot this activities and they will have a fun time.

Goal: Food Photo Bucket

Apart from my room, my computer is always a big mess with scattered pictures and downloaded videos no matter how I tried to keep it organized. So, I bought a portable external hard drive last weekend and I love it. This is a 500 gb My Passport Essential passport from Western Digital. I chose the red one because white was out of stock. It is fast using a USB 3.0 and 100% USB 2.0 compatible with 3 years limited warranty. You could download 500 photos in just 54 seconds, 2000 songs in 4 minutes, and a 2 hour HD movies in just 4.50 seconds. The hard drive can store 60 movies, 125,000 songs and 100, 0000 photos.
The real purpose of this new gadget is to create a photo back up. I am planning to do a scrap book of my food photos. That would be my goal fro the next 5 months. I would like to create photo books like those I saw online.
Another advantage of this new gadget is the WD SmartWare Software. This is visual control center with a single screen view of all my data. I could back up, retrieve, and secure my files. Whenever I add or change a file, it's instantly backed up and it has a password protection.

Define Chinese Breakfast

The below picture was my breakfast plate during our second day in Hong Kong. I am not very sure if these are the typical Chinese breakfast but these are the foods that were served in Dorsett Hotel where we stayed in for two consecutive days.

As per my research, the traditional Chinese breakfasts in Hong Kong follow those in Canton. In Hong Kong, cha chaan teng breakfasts might consist of Hong Kong-style milk tea, coffee, or yuan yang (half tea-coffee mix), served with bread (roll or toast), ham, and fried eggs (sunny-side up with 3 green peas on the side), and a bowl of macaroni in clear soup with shredded ham. That's a big breakfast, huh! I noticed that Chinese people love carbohydrates so much.  During our two days in Hong Kong, we walked a lot, most of the people do. Carbohydrate is one of the top ten energy-boosting foods, Perhaps that explains why they need a lot of carbohydrates. I've also noticed some locals on their bikes and scooters which is a good alternative if you don't want to walk but it's kinda risky considering that the road doesn’t have lane for bikers and the parking spaces were limited. I assume they have a high quality bike insurance considering that most of the bikes I saw were top of the line bikes.

Anticipating a Slumber Party

We were discussing a slumber party next month with my long lost friends. We were planning this party for like three months now but cancelled several times because our schedules don’t permit this get together to become a reality. Finally, we were able to synchronize our vacation leaves at our respective offices first week of next month.

Anyway, one of us promised to cook honey glazed chicken wrapped in bacon and the other promised to cook tuna al pesto, I decided to bring cheese and wine, I’m thinking if meridian vineyards merlot 1996 is a good one. One of our friends will bring home made potato and fruit salad while my best friend in college will join us and promised to bring pizza, Lays and Ruffles chips which by the way my favorite.

As for the outfit, I suggested to wear white pajamas and decent night gowns to match the color of the newly renovated room. I’m so excited! We’ll be having a cooking session and photo shoot first and of course watching movies afterwards. I’ve downloaded several movies but we haven’t decided yet what to watch. This is a perfect time to bond with them and to catch things up.

I Love Garlic

I am the number one fan of Garlic. It's strong smell and the acrid and pungent taste has a very distinct flavor. Some say it is the fifth taste. Crushed or minched garlic is often fried to add flavor to the food we eat everyday. My nanay, love it too, she said, it is the accessory of the food we eat. She's right, garlic is the number one ingredients we found in majority of Filipino dishes. Like umami, it is a seasoning found in most dishes. The garlic-ky taste in pesto, corned beef, and chicken dishes are my top favorites. The small than usual garlic often called "native" garlic here in the Philippines is tasteful. The benefits of garlic exceed not just the delightful taste, but also in health.

My mother eats it raw because it treats high cholesterol. Regular eating of garlic helps lower blood pressure, controls blood sugar, and boosts the immune system. It has also been found to reduce the risk of esophageal, stomach, and colon cancer. It also treats parasites, respiratory problems, poor digestion, and low energy. Garlic is used as anti bacterial, used to cure toothaches. Garlic's ability to fight infections and bacteria makes it an effective cure for warts and other skin problems. The only side effect of garlic that I hate is bad breath, lol! Well there are many ways to stop bad breath. Of course, brushing your teeth after eating garlicky food would definitely freshen up your breath.

The Canadians Lunch at Grub Shack

Everyday, a delicious lunch is something to look forward to indulge in whether you are at home or at work. For me, a comfortable and affordable lunch set the mood for the rest of the day. If you’ve noticed I'm silent and mad midday of work, I probably had a bad lunch at the jolly jeep nearby. Lol!

Economical Check – with limited budget of PhP 120.00 for lunch, I ordered Honey-Lemon Glazed Wing with Rice and Iced tea. Joanna and Sheena ordered Garlic Spiced pork Belly and Nathalie ordered Creamy Seafood Pasta. In Makati, I would say its affordable .

Quality Check  -  The taste, aroma, texture and presentation are the qualities of  a good eats.  I acknowledge the fact that grease, calorie and fat are my definition of a good lunch.  These food met those qualities. The taste of chicken was tender, sweet and I knew it was fresh off the grill.

Location Check - If you are working along Ayala Avenue, you don’t need to ride a bus or taxi but a 1 series BMW Colchester would be great, lol! The location is accessible. The restaurant is located at G/F Cosmopolitan Tower 134 Valero Street, Salcedo Village, Makati City. If you are working on a complicated deal, just call-in at 63-2-813-6274.

Meet the Canadians – Rome, Nathalie, Sheena, and Joanna. Not in picture are Dadz, Mcdully, Shobee, and Gemma. They are probably working on a complicated task.

Dreaming of a White Kitchen

My love for food and cuisine has deepened. I am beginning to day dream about setting up a white kitchen with various cabinets and kitchen units complete with high end appliances such as refrigerators, stoves, microwaves, dishwashers, corner kitchen sinks, regular sinks, indoor and outdoor grills, and kitchen islands. Just like the kitchen of Kris Aquino shown on Kris tv later this week.
Just like a passionate DJ who aims for a Traktor kontrol s4, my goal is to set up a High-end kitchen. I am determined to nail it. But first, I should learn how to cook.lol! A state of the art kitchen will be out of purpose without a great and good cook. Yes, you are correct, first step is to start learning how to prepare foodies from simple to gourmet. Please don’t tell me to enroll in a culinary school, it wont succeed not just because I don’t have time but the fact is I couldn’t afford Enderun's tuition fee. Hehehe.  I could get some culinary tips from the internet and from my food blogger buddies. I have a list of their recipes and I hope I could try some of the interesting flavors .
I am serious now to purchase a small stove next month, perhaps I could start cooking my Nanay's signature dishes so I could share it to you.

The Google Effect: Lazy Memory

Since I was a kid, I knew I had a poor memory. I can’t remember important dates such as important occasions and my family member's birthdates. Yes, I admit, I'm not that thoughtful. I am grateful to the social networking sites like facebook because it reminds me whose birthdays will be coming up. But here's another story, my brother's birthday was hidden on facebook, I thought it will be on the 16th. I only found out that July 13 was his birthday when someone greets him on his wall. I feel so guilty for forgetting important things.

According to study that I've just read online (Mail Online), Google has made our memories lazy. I agree to this study, in fact, I am very dependent on Google to whatever I do. I always consult Google. Google seems to know everything. I realized, Google triggered me to be more mentally lazy. For instance, I tend to forget things I am confident that I can find online, while I'm more likely to remember things I think are unavailable online. It is better and easier to remember where to find something on the internet than remembering the information itself.

The research that was published in the journal Science has a deeper analysis, it revealed that people do not necessarily remember where to find certain information when they remember what it was, and that they particularly tend to remember where to find information when they can’t remember the information itself. A greater understanding of how our memory works in a world with search engines has the potential to change teaching and learning in all fields. Professor Sparrow said, 'Perhaps those who teach in any context, be they college professors, doctors or business leaders, will become increasingly focused on imparting greater understanding of ideas and ways of thinking, and less focused on memorization.--'And perhaps those who learn will become less occupied with facts and more engaged in larger questions of understanding' ( Mail Online)

Cheese Hopia at Sonya's Panaderia

Panaderia is a Filipino term for bakery or bakeshop. The Panaderia in Sonya's Garden houses the best and the freshest cheese hopia and spanish bread in Metro Manila. The bakeshop is hidden in the corner of the garden beside the country shop and the most photographed gazebo.

Hopiang baboy was my favorite among the variants of hopia until I tasted my new discovery, the flaky and aromatic cheese hopia from Sonya's Panaderya. Never had I tasted as delish as this hopia I think they fill it in with pure parmesan cheese.  This popular hopia costs PhP 70 for 10 pieces and often runs out of stock.

Hong Kong Disneyland's Rides in Tommorrowland

The Flights of Fantasy parade along Maine Street was fabulous! We then proceeded to Tommorrowland to experience the thrill on each ride. We were separated because each of us has our own interests. I don’t have camera to capture the moments so, I go along with sissy Anney because she’s my official photographer. Lol!  We didn’t ride we just took plenty of pictures. Here is the list of Tommorrowland rides.

Meeting Disney Characters in Hong Kong Disneyland

Wearing our Disney character inspired shirt courtesy of the well-known sissy Anney, we headed to Hong Kong Disneyland in the afternoon. I wore black shirt with print out of Disney's superstar, Mickey. I was excited to meet the famous Disney Characters.

We arrived just in time when Flights of Fantasy Parade was about to start at 3 PM.  I feel the kid in me when I saw the characters of the fairy tales came into life. The Disney princesses are beautiful and real! I saw Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Cinderella, and Belle moving, waving, and dancing. Tinker bell is my favorite character.

Lead by the good natured and loyal Mickey Mouse, other characters that we saw in the Fantasyland are; the lovely Minnie Mouse, the hot-headed but usually good-intentioned  Donald Duck, Good natured but not too bright Goofy, Mickey Mouse's best friend and faithful pet dog Pluto, cowboy Woody, Jessie, and the cuddly Winnie the Pooh.

It was a magical day meeting my favorite characters  full of fun, fantasy and adventure. I'll tell you more Disneyland stories on my next posts.

Snack Attack

I been eating different kind of Filipino snack today. I never had a meal yet since I woke up. When I woke up at 8 am, while looking for Abraham Lincoln quotes online, I had Chinese noodles and rice cake. After 2 hours, I took pancit canton, coffee and boiled egg. Right now, while writing this post, I'm eating banana cue and Banana spring rolls. Today, I declare snack all day!

Feast of San Fermin at Tapella

Press Release:

Spain has always been known as an incredible tourist spot. All over the country there are a large number of events that draw tens of thousands of people annually to witness the culture, modern nightlife, and age old traditions of the Spanish. However, there is one celebration that is renowned above all others: San Fermin. San Fermin is a festival that is held each year in Pamplona, a small city in Navarre. Beginning on the 6th of July, the afternoon Opening Ceremony draws a huge crowd around Town Hall, where the Pamplona party kicks off with the firing of a small rocket, then leads into a huge celebration with live music, champagne, and plenty of dancing. But that is only the first day of the festival, and from then until the Closing Ceremony (14th July) there are a number of activities and events to enjoy. The most well known and exciting events of the San Fermin festival is the  Bull Run. This is a daily spectacle, and every morning a collection of bulls are run through the streets to the local arena, but the real excitement of this morning stampede comes from the many people who choose to run alongside them.

Here in the Philippines, Gaudi Restaurants brings San Fermin in Manila with a twist. They won’t have any opening ceremony around the town hall and definitely no bulls to run with, but a huge evening celebration of wine buffet paired with tapas , dancing and a lot of free items. Just come-in-your-white to Tapella or Gaudi on July 15 and you will be treated right with a free glass of wine, free chistorra sausage and a free redkerchief too!

“The feast of San Fermin is very well known not only in Spain but in the whole world. It’s  a tradition that all the participants had wear traditional white pants and shirts with a red neckerchief tied at the front that’s why we would like to invite our guest to come in white on this day to feel the celebration and we are giving away glass of wine and sausage”, said Executive Chef- Alexandra Cacho.

Head to Gaudi Restaurants for the San Fermin festival, and have the time of your life at one of the world’s most famous celebrations. Gaudi is located at Ground Floor of Serendra while Tapella is at Ground Level of Greenbelt 5, both restaurants are ipen daily from 11am to 1am.
